Using Teachers Notes over the Summer Break

Your child’s report card includes more than their assigned grades, it also includes important teachers notes which you can use over the summer break. The Tutoring Center, Cypress TX has a great post on the topic, below.

Find a Theme

With your student and their report card, sit down and enjoy a snack while you each read through the teacher’s notes to identify a common learning challenge. As an example, if your child found public speaking and presenting their work to the class to be a challenge then you can expect multiple notes on the matter. Continuing with this example, consider these activities:
  • Copy paragraphs or even small pages of text from textbooks and your child’s notebooks from the previous year and use them as a reward system. For example, reading a page aloud to the family is rewarded with a ride to the mall, etc.
  • Encouraging your children to read non-educational books is a great way to introduce them to more vocabulary items. With this tip, ask your children to read you the first and last page of each chapter.
  • Reading your mail to you as you complete your errands is not only a great way for children to practice their public speaking skills but also allows parents to track progress.
Whatever challenge areas you identify from their teacher’s notes, adapt these tips or even create your own great ways to help your child over the summer break.
