Learning doesn’t have to be all about books. This summer, you can try some fun activities, like planning a trip or having a game night to keep your children learning.

When students think about summer, they picture themselves getting up late, having fun with their friends, family vacations, and no responsibilities. Learning something new is the last thing on their minds. However, you can be a smart parent and sneak some fun learning into their everyday activities. Here are a few ideas for summer learning.

4 Fun Summer Learning Activities

Game Night: Gather the family together for a night full of boardgames and fun. Games like Scrabble, Monopoly, Chess, and Battleship are a great challenge for your student’s brain. As for the younger ones, something like Go Fish can work on their concentration and math skills.

Plan a Trip: Let your children help you plan a family vacation. They can do research on where to go, what to do there, where to stay, where to eat, and how much to spend. They will have to do a lot of math and careful planning.

Head to the Zoo: Visit the zoo and take some time to actually read the exhibit’s descriptions. If your child likes a particular animal, encourage them to learn more about it.

Prepare Dinner: You can ask your children to make dinner for the family. You can set up a budget, take them to the grocery store, and have them pick everything they need for the meal. Cooking requires math, reading, and sometimes even creativity.
