How to Use Your Parent-Teacher Time Wisely

Now that children have had a chance to settle into the new school year and meet their parents, it’s time for parents to do the same and learn about who will be helping their student achieve high grades and reach their academic potential. Below is a post from The Tutoring Center, Cypress TX which can help you prepare for your parent-teacher meeting.

The Best Place to Start Is With a List

Many parents attend their parent-teacher meeting armed with nothing more than their memory of what they want to speak about. However, the conversation can have a way of making you forget what you were wanted to speak about, resulting in you leaving without speaking about important items. Prevent this from happening by sitting down and making a list. Think of all the items you want to talk to your child’s teacher about and write it down. Think about their challenges from last year, their strengths, and even their academic or career goals.

Get Your List in Order

With your completed list, rearrange the items to place the most important at the top. By doing this, you can not only ensure that you are able to use your time to speak about the most important items, but you can use your list at the meeting to check items off as your meeting progresses.

Can the Teacher Help?

There will be many items on your list that your child’s teacher just can’t help with. These could range from the school lunch menu right through to the school's curriculum. While these are important items to discuss, your child's teacher isn’t the correct person to help. With this in mind, be sure to stay away from using your time to speak about anything the teacher can’t directly help with or items which don’t immediately impact your child’s class time.
